Corruption and Malpractice in Ministry of Housing and Works
The Pakistan Ministry of Housing has disrepute over serious allegations
of corruption cases and involvement in many other demoralized and disputed
matters. The malpractices also include financial irregularities , nepotism and
allotment of land and housing units illegally. Further the employees of
ministry are said to have ties with land grabbers as well.
To make all these things happens quite easily, the some top
officials with authority attribute frequent changes and alteration. The Minister
of State for Housing and Works is facing hard time to maintain the standards
and follows rules, while the officials of State House have raised concerns regarding
the fair role of State House.
Attempt to Waste
Record:
According to initial inquiry by Ministry Officials, the Fire Broke Out at Shaheed-e-MillatSecretariat on 2nd March 2015 was put by some people in an
attempt to destroy the record of illegal allotments. The fire on that day not
only destroyed the records of different types of government houses, but also
claimed a heavy loss amounting to 4.5 million.
The ministry officials have transferred the case to FIA for
further investigation. The ministry has also named 5 suspicious officers that
can be involve in that fire including Joint Estate Officer. The previous fire
that broke out in 2007 caused the loss of 19.7 million.
The Secretary for Housing and Works Mr. Shahrukh Arbab
sought to computerized the record, however an officer at the ministry revealed
on the condition of anonymity that the Estate Office staff is not cooperating with
us.
According to some rough estimates, only in Karachi, about
4000 illegal occupants have occupied government residencies and houses.
On the other hands, Shahrukh Arbab is the 6th
person to take charge as secretary in last 12 months. The ministry is also
failed to start the work on Prime Minister’s Apna Ghar Housing Scheme for about
500,000 houses.
